What do angels do?

Since I began reading the Holy Bible as a child, I have wondered from time to time about angels and just what the heck they do. It's very easy to talk about angels but once you get right down to it, what the heck do they do?

The Holy Bible is riddled with references to angels and their interaction with human beings. Their numbers are incredibly large and include angels, archangels, seraphim, and cherubim. These four classifications, and there may be more than four, are a type of pecking order. The one thing that is sure is that they are all angels and they are not of this earth. Each one is born in heaven.

In Revelation 5:11 we learn of their number: "And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;"

Now that is a lot of angels. What in the world does God do with that many...or more...angels?

One thing that we know about angels is that they delivered messages to many human beings. The birth of Jesus Christ and their telling to Joseph that it was all right, that Mary was sill a virgin...that's one. There were others too throughout the Holy Bible.  Angels were warriors among human beings. We're told that all through the Old Testament.

One startling reference to angels is found in Hebrews 13:2   "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

That single sentence is very scary. Can you think of a time when you may have turned down an angel? I can. I will never do it again.

Then there's satan. He was sent to earth by the Archangel Michael after losing a battle in heaven. He apparently brought with him 1/3 of all the angels at that time in heaven to the earth. That is a lot of angels. But then, satan/lucifer was always a favorite of God and the angels loved him. So they came to earth too. To this day, satan and his angels have complete control of earth and all of it's inhabitants. There are good and bad angels.

That is, unless you believe in Jesus Christ, are baptised and follow the Ten Commandments. Then you're safe, by the grace of God, from the bad angels.

Satan and his angels are in complete control of the earth. They're having a heyday with it. If you look you will see his mark on everything on this earth. It's being destroyed in a very timely manner.

Just hang in there and pray, pray, pray. Go to church if you can. If not, get two or three of your friends together and pray. Jesus said he would be there if you do.

That's a very comforting thought in these turbulent times when satan and his angels rule the very ground we walk on.

So back to my original question. What do angels do when they're not delivering messages from God? There are millions of them...possibly billions...since the Holy Bible was first conceived. There are good and bad angels.

I can't answer that question. They are out there in the universe doing God's work is the best answer I can come up with...and here on earth doing satan's work.

Perhaps I will know someday. I surely hope so. I will walk the earth like so many human beings have done. I will sin because every single human being who has ever lived has sinned...save One. He was only partially human. A little bit below the angels we are told.

I will continue to pray to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. Then I will simply wait and see. It's the very best this mortal can do.
