In Revelations, an extremely troublesome book to read and understand regardless of how many times you read it, we learn in Chapter 12 that there was, in fact, a war in heaven.
Now. Stop for a minute. Let that sink in.
There was a war between Michael and his angels and satan and his angels. I wrote about this once before in the Religion section. It just blows my mind. A war. In heaven of all places. Even the word "fought" is mentioned twice in one sentence.
I do not understand war even on this earth let alone in heaven. But there it is. I mean, if they can have war in heaven because of satan, then what are our chances here on earth if satan is sent down here, in exile, to have the whole world under his thumb. He was you know. Him and 1/3 of all the angels in heaven with him. He is the god of this earth. He lost the war with Michael and was sent to the earth with his angels.
What chance do we have against him if he fought in heaven? None. Zip.
Except for Jesus Christ. That is why He was sent. For the death and resurrection and taking away all sin of man. Michael must have felt guilty
about sending him down here to us.
Satan must have been/is a terrible being with no redeeming social qualities. In verse 10 we read, "...for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." That means that satan was critizing God for everything all day.
Where did satan come from? Why was he so anti-God? We can take that a step further and ask where did God come from? But those questions are unanswerable to us human beings and meaningless. It doesn't pay to think about them. It's a waste of time.
Then in verse 12 we read, "Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down upon you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time." And then God sent Jesus Christ down to earth to make a way out for us mortal human beings.
Perhaps you can understand now why Jesus Christ is your only way out.
He was sent down here for us. He showed us that satan was here.
John of Patmos, the writer of Revelations, gives us all the only way out also. In his final verse of Chapter 12, we read, "(satan) went to make war with the remnant of her seed (man/woman), which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."
May God bless you all.
