Here are the first few verses of 1 John. I won't say much about them; they don't need much from a human being anyway. I will say to read it very slowly. There is a whole lot in these few verses.
1 John 4: 1-6 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is the spirit of an antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error."
These five verses are good to commit to memory. They address a lot of questions. The remaining verses of 1 John, Chapter 4, have to do with love and God. They should be read too.

1Jn 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
Extra:
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. :24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Extra II:
1 John 5,
Note: 1 Jn 5:7 & 1 Jn 5:8 words were added to the scripture not found in the original manuscript..
Should read: 1 Jn 5:7 For there are three that bear record
1 Jn 5:8 In earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one.
