In Proverbs 28:14 it says "Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief."
The word "hardeneth or hardens" is mentioned 12 times in the Old and New Testaments. It is always mentioned with the word "heart".
What does it mean? Well, it's really hard to find a handle to explain it properly. In short, it means that a person or groups of people have hardened their hearts against God...or hardened their hearts themselves against God. It is a derogatory term.
Hardening of the heart is just what it says. It means that there is no room for anything else. It means the heart has hardened and is closed. End of story.
There are many instances of heardening of the heart in contempory history. Especially against God. Stalin, Hitler, many humans who have raped and pillaged the earth and its people. There have been congressman and presidents who had their hearts hardened. There are people in the church you attend who have hardened hearts. There are people walking down the street with hardened hearts. They are everywhere. They are in prison and in your bank.
Then there is the softhearted. The class I would rather be in. The softhearted is the stuff of magic. It is always open and ready to help. There are no limits put on the softhearted at all. They do the world's good works.
