I have been noticing a surge of programming on cable television on religious fare. You can find it everywhere from Discover to the History Channel. I noticed on the History Channel International a several part series on Jesus and His large family (?) in the first century. The family consisted of about 10 members.
The documentary is very well done. Not a cheapy by any means. But it was nearly all speculation. It had to be. Nothing, or nearly nothing, is known of Jesus during that period.
From His being lost as a boy and found at the Temple until His baptism by John the Baptist...a period of approximately some 19-years...we know nothing of Him or His family. Maybe some day we'll find something
dug up from the ground that sheds some light on the whole situation...but I doubt it.
The program had my attention for about 16-minutes. Then I turned to another channel. I completely lost interest in it. The reason was simple. About six times during that 16-minutes of watching, I heard things like "most experts agree..." and "...if history is correct..." and "...the liklihood of..." and "...if we assume for a minute..." and on and on. The documentary was based soley on speculation.
There are people out there who will believe it as truth. That's the sad part. After all, it was on television on one of those reality-based programs.
Jesus Christ is missing from the bible for some very good reason during those years. We are not supposed to know why. My guess is that He was growing up and learning as much as He could about human beings.
That's logical.
The New Testament is based on Jesus Christ. Not His brothers or sisters or cousins or neices. Just Jesus Christ. They, if they existed, finished their use when Christ came to John the Baptist. They were, simply, human.
Please remember that. In the years coming there will be many, many programs just like the one I turned off. They will try to confuse you or make you believe in half-truths. They will try to cut down Jesus Christ from a celestial being from the heavens and the Son of God to merely another human being. Don't let them. If ever you have a question, then open up your bible and find the answer yourself.
The answer to your questions will be there and nowhere else.
